ABCs of Community Arts

Submitted by: Brian G. Smith

Toronto, ON

In the middle of the pandemic, an arts worker goes back to school after 34 years. There, he pulls together a university community arts group to produce a tragicomic cartoon: “The ABCs of Anxiety.”

Armed with an original A-Z poem, 26 bizarre character illustrations and a $1,500 wellness grant, the “York U Group of 12” works virtually, battling Wi-Fi demons and academic deadlines to emerge with a two-minute, 2D tour de force.
